[Nhcoll-l] [EXTERN] Incoming package from Brazil

Hi Paul,

I guess this is hugely difficult to determine; usually, national post flies on passenger flights and could arrive anywhere; USPS (unlike FedEx, UPS ad DHL Express) also does not operate own air hubs to my knowledge.

Surely the best way forward is to launch a pick-up from the US for the parcel in Brazil. Especially if this is valuable material, cost coverage through your institution would pay off and avoid that you have to chase down the parcel upon import - anywhere in the US.

This would also give you the authority over the shipment (including import handling and pre-determination of the port of entry in the US). It would also would allow to issue all necessary paperwork in advance. Colleagues in Brazil then only need to pack, print and hand the parcel over.

If you want to be more specific with choosing your closet port of entry you are working closely with, you can consider to arrange a pick-up as air cargo; that is usually the same price and is doable also for parcels, but as with booking a flight you can pre-determine the routing of the parcel as well.

Hope this helps
Dirk

If someone sends us a package with specimens from Brazil using Correios, and it’s delivered to us by the USPS, what would the Port of Entry be on the 3-177? Inquiring minds want to know.
