[Nhcoll-l] Pre-printed specimen tags

I too use our thermal transfer printer to print specimen and tissue tags with catalog numbers directly from our Specify CMS (if cataloged) or from a spreadsheet if not. I then use a 1/8-inch hole punch (https://www.amazon.com/Fiskars-23517097J-Circle-Punch-Purple/dp/B0001DT3ZE) and cotton thread to tie them to specimens.

Subject: Re: [Nhcoll-l] Pre-printed specimen tags

Sarah,

Have you used TLS (https://www.tlsprinting.com/specimen-tags) before for fluid preserved specimens? They hold up very well and are customized to your needs with museum acronyms and specific series of numbers.

I have also printed labels in the past from a Datamax printer, and punched holes to attach the label to specimens. Depending upon the amount of information you desire on the label, that route allows you customize any details desired on your thermal transfer label.

Kind Regards,

Ben

I’m sure this has been discussed here before, but can anyone recommend a vendor for pre-printed specimen labels (e.g., pre-printed with a tissue number) that includes string for attaching to the specime. Labels should be able to withstand formalin and alcohol.

I’ve been printing, hole punching, and stringing my own labels (printed on our datamax), but I’m ready to pay money for someone else to do it.
