Thank, Andy, for your quick reply!
Yes, GBIF is definitely a good source. However, it is far from perfect and we are trying to cast a wide net. For example, it states the SMNH has 3637 preserved specimens of birds when we actually have around 19000. Of course we will download GBIF data as well and cross reference it with other sources of information.
All the best,
Amos

Amos, Yael
I presume you have searched on GBIF? There appear to be over 5 million observation records and 8 thousand preserved specimens from Palestine/Israel - https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/search?country=PS&country=IL&taxon_key=212&occurrence_status=present

Subject: [Nhcoll-l] Request for information about specimens from Palestine/Israel
Hi all, I hope this email finds you well.
We are trying to build a comprehensive database of bird specimens from our region (Palestine / Israel) in museums and private collections around the world. We are aware that, starting at the nineteenth century and on, many nature researchers were active in the region, and many specimens were sent abroad. If you know about birds specimens from the Palestine / Israel region, in your institution or elsewhere, we will be very grateful if you could contact us, so we can integrate this into our database. If you know of anyone else who might have relevant specimens and is not on this list we would appreciate it if you could send this notice along to them.
Thank you very much,
Dr. Yael Piontkewitz (yaelpion at tauex.tau.ac.il<mailto:yaelpion at tauex.tau.ac.il>)
