[Nhcoll-l] iDigBio Transitions Update

Dear Colleagues,

As you may recall, I posted an email in mid-March announcing changes to iDigBio, its website, and its wiki. I also promised to post updates as they became available.


  1.
In the previous email, I announced that the legacy iDigBio website and wiki are being preserved on the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine (http://web.archive.org/web/20260423/idigbio.org) with the goal of being available in perpetuity. This archive is currently active. The archive does not nor is intended to function as an active website but will provide access in the absence of continued NSF funding. We apologize for any inconvenience and ask you to understand that iDigBio is in the process of closing its nearly 15-year project with as little disruption as possible and with the aim of migrating all aggregated data to GBIF and as much documentation as possible to the archive.

On April 24, iDigBio.org<http://idigbio.org> will be transitioned to a minimal single-page format with links to iDigBio’s data portal, its new GBIF Hosted portal, the internet archive, and the new iDigBio Events Hub. Links to iDigBio.org URLs will no longer be functional, except through the archive. As I mentioned in the previous announcement, since many of the digitization and data mobilization resources available through the current iDigBio website and wiki have been contributed in whole or in part by iDigBio’s users and collaborators, and may be more time intensive to access from the archive than presently, we encourage you to visit iDigBio.org at your earliest convenience prior to 24 April to download and preserve on your hardware any resources you may have found useful or potentially might find helpful to your future digitization activities.

The iDigBio data portal will cease data ingestion on 1 June 2026. More than 98% of our providers are now registered with and serving data through GBIF. We strongly encourage all of our providers to ensure they are registered with and serving their specimen data to GBIF. Cat Chapman <cchapman at floridamuseum.ufl.edu> at iDigBio can help with this, if needed.
  4.
The iDigBio IPT (https://ipt.idigbio.org/) has also moved. All of its content (including user accounts) has migrated to https://ipt.gbif.us/. While the previous ipt.idigbio.org URL will automatically redirect to ipt.gbif.us for now, we advise that those old links be updated to point to ipt.gbif.us going forward. Cat (see above) can also provide info and assistance with this.
