[Nhcoll-l] insect pests in a historic house museum

While an inquiry for assistance from a historic house museum with a collection of French Impressionist paintings may seem counterintuitive, we have been grappling with a moth situation over the last nearly three years, and while we feel we have it under control to the best of our ability, there is always more that could be done to mitigate harmful effects. Hence this message.

My volunteer "Team Clean" cohort that deals primarily with the cleaning associated with the activity around webbing clothes moths and other insect pests (the rest of the group attends to the routine basics of dusting vacuuming the house and its collection) is in need of a student who might find such work in a setting such as this intriguing and informative. The Natural History Collections listserv was suggested by UConn's Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology faculty.

One team member manages, assisted by two others, the pheromone traps and weekly counts to collect the necessary data for understanding what is going on within our 1901 wood frame structure. Assistance with traps, data and the Big Job of essential associated deep cleaning in the many nooks and crannies of this historic house is our need. If you know of a student, either graduate level or an undergrad, we would be interested in connecting and exploring a mutually beneficial arrangement.
