[Nhcoll-l] Destructive analysis on geologic specimens

A question for the collective:

We are reviewing our destructive analysis request policy, and I have a question for all geology, mineralogy, or museums with rocks in their collections who work with researchers. What is your process for working through destructive analysis requests? Do you have a vague guiding document or a solid process/ set of guidelines? Is the decision made by an individual or a committee? Is there a list of automatic "no" situations? If your museum doesn't allow destructive analysis on your collections,(only non-destructive methods) do you help the researchers in other ways (non-destructive analysis or curating their voucher specimen)?

Any ideas, policies, guidelines, advise, or experience that you have is appreciated!
