Hi Gali,
I recommend EMP60 for making palaeo supports. This has chopped fibreglass already incorporated within the putty. I have attached a poster from a few years ago, please note that the manufacturers have since added a blue dye to the catalyst so it is much easier to see if its fully mixed. You should shake the catalyst bottle before use as the blue dye sometimes separates out a bit.
There is some more info in this blog entry (including a demo video) which is about a similar product Epopast 400. EMP60 is very similar to Epopast 400 but requires a lot less grinding down (it can be quickly hand sanded with a sheet of sand paper). https://geocollnews.wordpress.com/2021/07/27/epopast-400-specimen-mounts-the-movie/

Hi NHCOLL-listers,

I'd like to get in touch with anybody who has used fibreglass textile to make jackets or supports for palaeontology objects. I used fine fibreglass tissue (+fine art plaster and Tyvek as a barrier layer between that and the supported bone objects) for years - but now have a sample of much thicker (330g/m2) fiberglass textile I'm trying out for useful combinations of textile + epoxy. It will be good not to re-invent the wheel: I will be happy to learn from those already practiced about which combinations of fibreglass textile and whatever worked for them and any problems they may have encountered.

ps. Those of you who may wish to join the compilation of data on printed labels for collections in fluid (for publication as an SPNHC wiki-page, mentioned in previous postings) are very much welcome to get in touch, too!
