Hi all!
My name is Jenna Benzing and I'm a recent graduate of the University of Kansas' museum studies program. I wanted to thank everyone who filled out my biological collections survey in January - your insights were invaluable in shaping the direction of my master's thesis!
As part of my thesis, I created a PDF guide/resource list to help small museums care for their biological collections. The guide focuses on general budget-friendly recommendations for improving storage, as well as specific recommendations for different specimen types. It also briefly touches on laws applicable to biological collections, health hazards and mitigation, digitization, rehousing collections that can no longer be cared for, and funding sources for biological collections.
I'm attaching my completed guide, which is also linked on the Kansas Museums Association's Resources page. Please feel free to distribute it and let me know if you find it helpful!
