Dear Seung Hyun,

We also operate a Bruker SkyScan 1273 at the Harvard MCZ. Our standard practice for wet specimens is to wrap them in damp cheesecloth (which we soak in ethanol and then squeeze out). We enclose the wrapped specimen in a heat-sealable bag, which is then placed in a secondary thin-walled plastic container for scanning. For very small specimens, like subsampled tissues or small invertebrates, we probably skip the heat-sealed bag, and stage the specimen inside a drinking straw or a pipette, with ethanol-damp cotton (or equivalent) on either side to hold it in place. We're careful, of course, to seal both ends watertight with parafilm, etc.

Anything bigger than (approximately) a human skull needs to be scanned in a different device, as you're likely aware.

I am responsible for managing biological specimens here, particularly overseeing the digitization project

Currently, I am working on 3D imaging of fluid-preserved specimens such as fish using the Bruker SkyScan1273


Do you have any special ideas for specimen holders that could be used for CT scanning?

At present, I place specimens in plastic sample jars for scanning, but since the sizes of the specimens vary greatly, I am experiencing difficulties
