Actually, just a little call for help: Can anyone remember what
author(s) have mentioned the idea of pre-custodial involvement in personal recordkeeping?  I've got so many bibliographic balls in the air right now that I just can't remember!  I'm fairly sure pre-custodial involvement is a notion that's been met almost universally with suspicion, but I need the footnote.
