[Personal_archives] SISPA Minutes & news

I was hoping the Program Chair would weigh in on this point, and am glad to hear that innovation is broadly defined!  The technology angle had me stumped.

I am interested in participating or contributing in some way, but am not sure yet what that would be, or if it would fit in with Amy and Jennifer’s theme of reimagining personal archives.  But I am now pondering personal archives and innovation, which I tended to think at first as innovative new practice or procedures, but am now thinking that it could be innovation in conceptualizing personal archives, opening a new line of inquiry.

Thanks Rodney (that is just what I hoped), and thanks Jennifer for thoughts and language: "what else are archives for?"  Anyone else want to join us for a panel about re-imagining personal archives and collective experience -- for healing and for bringing people together -- something along these lines?

I think what you both are sketching out sounds exceptionally interesting and I strongly encourage you to work this up into a session proposal.

Nebulous thoughts here, too, but I think we could put something together...any other biters???

Dear SISPA,
Please indulge me for airing some very nebulous thoughts with regard to the ACA conference.  I have been thinking recently about theoretical challenges to the concept of personal archives and how these play out with regard to artists' documentation.  Basically blowing up the fonds concept a bit, and looking at the intersection between people and institutions, and possibly getting into public programming.  What I lack (utterly) is experience with innovative technological approaches in this area so I'm struggling a bit with the conference theme -- maybe our program chair can chime in here with some supportive words -- anyway, if anyone out there is thinking along similar or wonderfully contrasting lines, please be in touch and perhaps we can develop a panel session together.

My thanks to outgoing secretary Heather Dean for her work over the years, which included setting up this listserv.
Heather D is no longer at Yale, the kind host of this list. While she has let me know that we can continue to use it for the short-term, the SISPA list should find itself a new home.
Does anyone have the ability to set up a new listserv at their institution? If not, I have looked into a few free listserv options and it looks like Google Groups might be the best candidate; it certainly seems to becoming increasingly popular among archivists (AABC just moved their list over to GoogleGroup, the Catholic Archivist Group just set one up as well).
Please let me know if you can set up a list on SISPA's behalf or if you have an alternative to Google by the end of July. Hearing nothing, I will set up a Google Group and sent out instructions to join in early August.
Lastly, I'd like to remind people that they should be thinking about submitting Personal Archives-related paper or sessions for ACA2016 in Montreal. I don't think there was a single paper at this year's conference dealing with personal archives and that is certainly a situation I don't want to see repeated.
If you have idea for a paper or panel and would like to coordinate a session with others in the group, please feel free to use this list to make it happen!

The session could be titled something as simple as "Innovative Approaches to Personal Archives", which would allow several of you to discuss how you have been handling personal papers in all their wonderful forms. Let me know if you have any questions about the Call or if I can assist in any way in bringing people together.
