Hi everyone,
I hope all of us at our first meeting are on the subcommittee
list now. I am sending you Arlene's methodology again since
some of us didn’t get the message earlier. Arlene, thank you
so much for providing us with the methodology!
Thank you all for your comments on Arelene's methodology. Do
we all agree with the first five questions? If we do, I
suggest we all follow Arlene's methodology when we look at the
bib records that Ed is going to send us. We will discuss more
how we evaluate the chronological headings after we look at
some specific records.
How many records are we going to review?
I think each of us should look at about 400 records. I
understand that 1/3 of FAST headings are very similar to LCSH.
I suggest we pay special attention to the complex headings
(with strings). We should be examining the FAST headings from
the users’ perspective – whether these facets in isolation
make sense to users and whether it is the correct direction.
We should not get into details as whether some specific
headings are correct or not.
Thank you so much. I am sure we will have a lot of fun with
FAST headings.
Qiang
