Please ignore the email below.
I sent it to the SDS mailing list back in September and it was stuck awaiting approval since then.

We are planning to restart this reading group next September, so stay tuned!

Subject: [Sds-faculty] [Sds-announce] Reading group on ML theory starting 9/16
Hello everyone!

With Sinho Chewi, Omar Montasser, and Ilias Zadik, we are starting a weekly reading group that might be of interest to some of you!

We will meet on Mondays 1:00pm – 2:00pm in KT 219. The theme will be broadly ML theory (roughly in the convex hull of our interests), with an emphasis on mathematical techniques. Some of the topics we are considering: self-interacting diffusions, stochastic localization, low-degree/SQ/landscape hardness, effective dynamics, novel functional/matrix inequalities.

In terms of organization, we plan to have a mix of paper presentations, discussion sessions, and multi-week introduction to some topics.

We will meet for the first time on Monday 09/16. To jumpstart the reading group, Garrett Wen will present “High‐dimensional limit theorems for SGD: Effective dynamics and critical scaling”, G. Ben Arous, R. Gheissari, A. Jagannath (2022).

We will use the following google doc for scheduling: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VxQLShAF1em9vI8-LnIqZfRAvRGZHWIKbvG1C9lS9No/edit?usp=sharing

Cheers,
Theodor
