Come meet members of the Southeast Asian community, learn about opportunities to get involved with the student groups, and enjoy delicious food! There will be Spring Rolls. We need volunteers to help prepare Spring Roll ingredients! Preparation begins at 4pm in the AACC kitchen on Wednesday. Hope to see you there!

The Evolution of Identity: A Dinner with Professor Geetanjali Chanda

Brought to you by Yale Students for UNICEF, AACC and InSight 

 

Come join us for a dinner conversation on what it means to be Asian-American!  Professor Chanda, who has spoken at international fora and published widely on notions of home, family and gender, will facilitate a dialogue among students about their experiences and questions about identity, focusing on exploring how aspects of identity have changed over time, and engaging in a discussion about what kind of values we would want to pass on to our children. Thai Taste will be served!!

Revelasians, the semesterly publication put out by the Asian American Cultural Center, would like to welcome all members of the Yale community to submit their work! We're currently taking student created works of poetry, prose, photography, art and much more! Have an interesting piece you wrote for English 120, a photo from Intro to Photography, or something you want to say? Send it in!

All AACC affiliate groups must submit a piece on any major event they host

Humanity in Action (HIA) 2011 Fellowship.

HIA invites applications from college students and recent graduates who are intellectually gifted, mature, independent and passionate about human rights. Current sophomores, juniors, and seniors and graduates from the classes of 2009 and 2010 are eligible to apply.

 

The HIA Fellowship brings together international groups of Fellows to study minority rights and produce research exploring how and why individuals and societies, past and present, have resisted intolerance and protected democratic values. Separate programs will take place for five weeks in Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Paris, and Warsaw. Applications are due on January 10, 2011.

Vietnamese Advanced Summer Institute (VASI) Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam

Program Dates: June 13 to August 5, 2011

 

The Vietnamese Advanced Summer Institute (VASI) is an intensive eight-week course of study in advanced Vietnamese conducted at Vietnamese Language Studies Sai Gon in Ho Chi Minh City. VASI is

equivalent to a full year's academic work. Program applicants must have attained an intermediate level of proficiency in Vietnamese before attending VASI. Applicants must also be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. and either a graduate student, junior or senior at a college or university; a faculty member or K-12 teacher; or an area studies or foreign language education administrator.

 

Candidates who are selected for VASI must pay a non-refundable program fee of $750 to UC Berkeley before departure to Viet Nam. Participants are responsible for their own health insurance, pre-travel inoculations and some of their daily living expenses in Viet Nam. Airfare, tuition, visa fees and lodging are covered by VASI.

Yale Microfinance Brigades 

Want to know about how microfinance started? Want to learn how you can be a part of Yale Microfinance Brigades?

 

Please join us on Thursday, November 11th at 7:00 PM in LC 211 for a screening of the documentary Small Fortunes and a talk, "Following Microfinance: Social Business as the Next Step" by guest speaker Manouchehr Shamsrizi. Manouchehr Shamsrizi is a Junior Global Justice Fellow from Germany and the creative advisor to Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Small Fortunes is PBS made, one-hour movie about how Mohammad Yunus formed this idea and started it on a grassroots level. The documentary follows the stories of 11 microentrepreneurs in locales ranging from India to the Philippines to NYC. "Small Fortunes" explores how short-term loans of even a few dollars have resulted in dramatic changes in lifestyles for families who otherwise would have no means of lifting themselves out of poverty. 

Samosas and Kettle Corn will be served. Come learn how you can get involved with microfinance brigades and go on trips to the communities we help!
