1. ViSA Board Elections
Board elections are coming up and for those of you who have been relatively
involved in the club, we encourage you to consider running! Elections,
during which candidates will prepare a statement and answer questions, take
place during our annual White Elephant Christmas Party. Details about time
and place coming soon. Position descriptions, with current board member
contact info, below:

PRESIDENT(2):
Set the yearly goals and overall agenda with the board at the start of term,
and then work closely with the board throughout the year in planning and
holding events. This semester schedule is presented to AASA immediately
after it is drafted. The two presidents will then meet with the other
e-board leaders within AASA on a bi-weekly basis for matters of
intercultural cooperation and relations. The two presidents also lead weekly
dinner meetings, weekly board meetings, and are each expected to be at as
many club events as possible. In general, they should be the most visible
members both to the club and the community. Email vy.tran at yale.edu or
paul.tran at yale.edu with questions about this role.

TREASURER:
In charge of ViSA’s finances and bank account. Fill out UOFC forms, apply
for various forms of funding, collect receipts from ViSA members after
events, and return receipts to funding sources in a timely
manner to ensure prompt reimbursement. Find new sources of funding where
possible. Email binh.doan at yale.edu with questions.

SECRETARY:
The secretary is responsible for taking notes at board meetings and sending
out the weekly emails with announcements from ViSA, AASA, AACC, and other
cultural groups. Email catherine.dinh at yale.edu with questions about this
EXTREMELY important role ;)

POLITICAL CHAIR:
The Political Chair is a neutral position, meant to foster debate and
dialogue pertaining to issues within the Vietnamese and Vietnamese American
spheres. As far as involvement with AASA's PAEC Board, you must attend a
meeting every week to discuss projects that pertain to the Asian American
community, such as bringing in guest speakers and holding conferences for
high school students. Beyond the PAEC Board, political events within the
club have typically consisted of roundtable discussions and film screenings.
The Chair should work closely with the Vietnamese Studies Group where
relevant. Email eric.moy at yale.edu with questions.

SOCIAL CHAIR:
Maintain the unity and friendly atmosphere of the club mainly through
hosting a variety of bonding events including but not limited to; mixers,
game nights, and movie screenings. The two largest events of
the year, Pho Night and Cultural Show, are the work of close collaboration
between the Cultural and Social Chair. Email timothy.pham at yale.edu or
thu.do at yale.edu with questions.

CULTURAL CHAIR:
Aside from the Cultural Show, there is the Cultural Dinner and various other
events throughout the year, such as; Master’s Teas, summits and the
celebration of holidays or events with cultural significance. The Chair
should be aware of and publicize relevant campus events whenever possible.
Email victoria.nguyen at yale.edu with questions.

PUBLICITY CHAIR:
The Publicity Chair is in charge of ensuring that our events are well
attended by not only the members of our club, but the Yale community. Table
tents, posters, mass emails and chalking are included in publicity. Email
sara.silva at yale.edu with questions.

HISTORIAN:
The Historian documents our events, candid moments within the club, and
captures precious memories that we probably won’t share with our
grandchildren due to their most likely alcoholically tainted natures.
Email thuy.ho at yale.edu with questions.

WEBMASTER:
The Webmaster controls the content of our website. Everything from
publicizing events, posting pictures and posting videos of events

No Freeze Clothing Drive

November 17--December 17

In response to the withdrawal of New Haven’s No Freeze Policy and a lack of
community closets for homeless individuals, the Yale Hunger and Homelessness
Action Project (YHHAP) and the Muslim Students Association (MSA) will be
sponsoring the NO FREEZE PROJECT- a clothing drive for New Haven’s homeless
population at the most crucial time of the year. Blue collection drums will
be located in all the colleges for students to leave
shirts/pants/sweaters/hats/coats, to be donated through Columbus House
homeless shelter and the Social Integration Program. Please consider giving
away any article of clothing you no longer wear but is still in relatively
good condition—it’s an excellent way to reduce waste in addition to
providing a critical community service during the winter months. Members of
the Yale community are also encouraged to give monetary donations, through
YHHAP’s fundraising website, to ensure that homeless individuals receive
more essential, less common articles of clothing. Just $8 will support a hat
and gloves, $12 a sweatshirt, and $35 a jacket. Donate online here. Please
direct any questions to YHHAP, yhhap1 at gmail.com, or MSA, yalemsa at gmail.com,
and thank you for your donations!
