*3. **Event: **dinner and a discussion about the purpose of the Asian
American community at Yale. ***
Why does the term Asian American continue to exist? Does the Asian American
community continue to exist, or has it splintered into smaller communities?
What is the purpose of organizations of AASA and the AACC today? To be
political? Cultural? Social? Do these organizations have a purpose at
all?
We will also talk about Vi Nguyen’s post on the AASA blog “Will the Asian
American community please speak up?”
http://www.yaleaasa.org/blog/?p=2504#more-2504<https://www.mail.yale.edu/services/go.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.yaleaasa.org%2Fblog%2F%3Fp%3D2504%23more-2504>.
If you can, please take a look at it before the discussion.
Dinner and discussion will be held at the AACC on Wednesday February
23rdfrom 6-7:30. Please send questions and RSVP’s to

field of Southeast Asian studies.
Appropriate purposes for support include (but are not limited to) language
training, masters thesis summer research, pre-dissertation research field
work, and funding supplements required to bring a research project to
fruition. We expect other sources of funding to be pursued before or in
addition to SEAS application if possible, and such effort will be
considered positively by the award selection committee.
Deadline for submission of 2011 Summer Fellowship applications (including
all supporting materials and recommendation letters) is February 23, 2011.
Applications for academic 2011/2012 semester projects should also be

*11.**Opportunity**: SEARAC Leadership Training*
The Southeast Asia Resource Action Center (SEARAC) is pleased to announce
our Thirteenth Annual Southeast Asian American Leadership & Advocacy
Training. This year, SEARAC will be convening in two locations:
New Orleans, LA: May 22-24, 2011 (Application deadline: March 20, 2011)
Washington, DC: July 24-26, 2011 (Application deadline: May 1, 2011)
These trainings provide a forum for Southeast Asian American community
leaders to participate in three days of activities that include leadership
strategizing, collaborative networking, advocacy education, and relationship
building with decision makers on issues that are specific to the Southeast
Asian American community. These trainings are open nation-wide to all
members of the Southeast Asian American community and/or individuals
currently working with the Southeast Asian American community. Due to the
training format and other constraints, we strongly urge that only residents
of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast apply to the New Orleans training
program. SEARAC will cover the majority of hotel fees and help with travel
costs for participants living outside of the training locations, but
participants may be responsible for portions of their travel costs.
Applications are available online:
