Elections and White Elephant!

Hello all,
 
Thank you to everyone who helped make our cultural show fun and successful, which not only includes the actors, dancers, singers, models, and magicians, but everyone who came and was part of the audience. We had a lovely time writing, choreographing, and rehearsing the show, which is the last major event organized by this year’s board!
 
That brings us to…
 
Elections! 
 
We’ve listed the board positions with brief descriptions below. If you are a freshman, sophomore, or junior and have enjoyed your experience with ViSA, we strongly encourage you to consider running for board. You’ll have the chance to engage with other leaders in the Yale community and advocate for changes that will affect student life for years to come. It’s a truly rewarding experience - we’ve learned so much and met so many new people during our terms on board! 
 
We’ll have more details on elections/White Elephant (our annual gift exchange event) soon, but here are the board positions:  
 
·         Co-presidents 
o   Lead ViSA board and moderate board meetings
o   Attend weekly AASA executive board meetings and represent ViSA externally
o   Must have at least 2 semesters of ViSA board experience

·         Cultural chair
o   Organizes cultural show every fall
o   Coordinates cultural performances and advises for cultural events

·         Treasurer
o   Manages organization finances and event budgets
o   Applies for grants and funding for organization activities

·         Secretary 
o   Records minutes at board meetings
o   Manages organizational communications, including weekly ViSA newsletter

·         Social chairs
o   Organize social events within ViSA and with other groups

·         Political chair
o   Organizes political events, including discussions on Vietnamese issues and speaker events
o   Represents ViSA at weekly PAEC (Political Action and Education Committee) meetings

·         Historian 
o   Maintains ViSA alumni database and liaises with alumni 
o   Expands record of ViSA activities
o   Maintains and expands institutional memory 
o   Takes photographs at ViSA activities

·         Publicity chair 
o   Creates promotional material and media for ViSA events
o   Maintains ViSA Facebook page and group

If you are interested in candidacy, please send Jenny and Kevin a brief (250-300 word) statement about any relevant experience, goals, etc.  you have for your chosen position by 10PM ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14TH.
