 Subject: Susan Stewart lecture, Wednesday, Dec. 8th

Susan Stewart, Professor of English at Princeton, poet and critic, and 
MacArthur Foundation Award Winner, will present a lecture on 
Coleridge, 
"Praising Dejection," on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 4 pm in LC 102.

Professor Stewart's most recent book, Poetry and the Fate of the 
Senses 
(2002) won the Christian Gauss and Truman Capote Awards for literary 
criticism, and her most recent collection of poetry, Columbarium 
(2003) won 
the National Book Critics Circle Award.  Her previous works of 
criticism 
are:  On Longing: Narratives of the Miniature, the Gigantic, the 
Souvenir, 
the Collection (1993), Crimes of Writing: Problems in the Containment 
of 
Representation (1991), and Nonsense (1989).  She has published two 
previous 
collections of poems, co-translated Euripides' Andromache, and 
co-translated the poetry and prose of the Scuola Romana painter 
Scipione.  A collection of her essays on art and aesthetics is 
forthcoming.
