4th Annual New Haven Public Schools SEL Day  (Hope, Healing and Happiness)

We are excited to announce that New Haven Public Schools is partnering with community organizations to launch a campaign around the social and emotional learning (SEL) and wellbeing of students. The theme of the campaign is: NHPS SEL Day (Hope, healing and Happiness)- The day will be spent focusing on providing opportunities for students to foster their own SEL skills.


In our 4th year of hosting this event, we would like to continue to offer virtual sessions and add opportunities for school-based in person events and or activities.  The topics and activities can range from read aloud, arts and crafts, virtual quiz games, music of any type, meditation, yoga, healing activities, drawing activities, hands-on group activities, science demonstrations, creative writing, spoken word, relationship skill building activities, spoken word, social justice forums and many more!  Students will be able to take part in activities and sessions that allow them to explore topics of interest while also expanding their curiosity to new topics.


What: “SEL Day  (Hope, Healing and Happiness),” a virtual and in-person event offering a variety of workshops/sessions throughout the day for all stakeholders

Intended Audience: All 41 New Haven Public School students and staff

When:  Friday, March 8th, 2024, 8:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Our ask is for volunteers to donate one or more hour(s) of their time to present workshops/sessions on topics related to wellness, hope, justice, and community!

Organizers and volunteers needed for Julia Robinson Math Festival

Saturday, March 2, 8:30 AM - 12 PM, 17 Hillhouse Ave

Pirate puzzles, skyscrapers, and light switches. Help show kids that math is much more than numbers! The Julia Robinson Math Festival provides an opportunity for kids to try open-ended problem solving with a variety of games and puzzles. We need organizers to help plan the event and volunteers to lead the fun! You don't need to be an expert - we want to show the students that everyone can do math!

Flipped Science Fair is back!

The Flipped Science Fair<https://yaledailynews.com/blog/2018/10/16/yale-hosts-flipped-science-fair/> at Open Labs transforms the conventional science fair by empowering middle school judges! These judges assess graduate students, postdocs, and postgraduate researchers based on their skill in communicating their work through poster presentations.

Pathways Summer Scholars Teaching Assistants and Residential Advisors

Every year, the Yale Pathways Summer Scholars programs welcomes over 150 local public high school students to campus free of cost to take part in STEM and Arts & Humanities classes with Yale faculty and students. Students will have the unique opportunity to learn about coding, neuroscience, engineering, art-making, art history, college essay writing, and more. From start to finish, Summer Scholars runs from July 1st to August 2nd.


We’re seeking Yale undergraduate and graduate students to serve as Teaching Assistants or Residential Advisors! We’re looking for folks with maturity, enthusiasm, organizational skills, a sense of humor and a genuine interest in young people and outreach. Previous work with youth is preferred but not required, and content knowledge in STEM or Arts & Humanities is not required. Teaching Assistants (TAs)
TAs help with logistical needs of the program, plan activities, serve as mentors and chaperones to students, and aid classroom instructors. Prospective TAs must be available from July 1st to August 2nd from 8:30am to 4:30pm, five days a week. This is a full-time position, $16.75/hour. Citizens Thinkers Writers Residential Teaching Assistants

Yale’s Citizens Thinkers Writers<https://citizensthinkerswriters.yale.edu/> program is seeking Yale sophomores and juniors to join us in a program discussing transformative texts of political thought with New Haven high-schoolers and mentoring them.


CTW is a two-week residential summer program and year-long fellowship program at Yale University for students from New Haven public schools who want to think deeply about fundamental questions of civic life in a college setting.
