Subject: Research faculty position in Neuroscience at UPR-Rio Piedras-Department of Biology
Dear Giovanna,

The Department of Biology at our institution is seeking outstanding applicants for one research faculty position in the Neurosciences. Knowing your highly regarded dedication to advancing the careers of many successful neuroscientists through your many professional development initiatives, I would like to ask your support in sharing this job opportunity with your current and former trainees. Please note that the deadline for submitting the application has been extended for another month until June 3, 2024.

The University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras Campus (UPR-RP) stands as the premier educational institution in Puerto Rico, boasting top-tier academic rankings as a High Research University by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. As one of the nation's leading Hispanic serving institutions (HSI), UPR-RP distinguishes itself with its exceptional transdisciplinary research and academic programs. Historically, UPR-RP has been at the forefront of advancing the careers of underrepresented minority groups (URM) in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields, solidifying its status as a national leader in this endeavor. HSIs like UPR-RP play a pivotal role in fostering Hispanic inclusivity in the United States, particularly within STEM disciplines.

The Biology Department is the largest, most complex department within the UPR-RP. It serves over 3000 undergraduate students, 100 graduates and provides multiple courses to students in other academic disciplines. It has a thriving and popular master’s program and houses the Intercampus Doctoral Program in Biology in partnership with the UPR-Medical Sciences Campus. It is a renowned research center hub for biomedical research in Puerto Rico and has historically been recognized as the source of a successful training pipeline for hundreds of URM alumni towards successful academic and research careers in biomedical research. In addition, the Biology Department maintains a robust federal funding portfolio from NIH and NSF with multiple programs that range from individual grants to multidisciplinary research centers currently reaching millions in funding. Several very successful research training grants for undergraduate and graduate students are led by researchers within our department that supply significant numbers of URM scientists from different disciplines to the biomedical workforce. Our Biology Department is very proud of our alumni that through rigorous scientific training and outstanding mentoring continue toward successful careers in health-related professions and biomedical research.

I look forward to our future communications.

Best,

Carmen
