Subject: Evident (Olympus) FV4000 Demo & Intro via Zoom

Dear Colleagues,

>From May 19th to 29th we will be hosting a demo of the ~new FLUOVIEW FV4000 Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope by Evident (formerly known as Olympus) in WTI's NeuroLux (SHM B-156). At the core of FV4000 is a proprietary SilVIR detector (US Patent No. US11237047B2<https://patents.google.com/patent/US11237047B2/en>) that can achieve lower noise, higher sensitivity, higher dynamic range, and improved photon resolving capabilities in time than the previous technology it's based on, the silicon photomultiplier (or SiPM), thanks to an integrated circuit containing a digital signal processor and a gigahertz analog-to-digital converter. (A SiPM is basically an array of micro photon-counting APD detectors found in most of the contemporary confocal microscopes; see section 4.1 for details in this whitepaper<https://evidentscientific.com/en/learn/white-papers/silvir-detector-system-for-the-fv4000-laser-confocal-microscope>),

Based on conversations with experienced confocal users who have tried FV4000 and my understanding of the whitepaper<https://evidentscientific.com/en/learn/white-papers/silvir-detector-system-for-the-fv4000-laser-confocal-microscope> and the patent, this SilVIR breakthrough seems a real deal. The only way to confirm is to try it out with real samples! The demo system configuration will include 6 spectral SilVIR detectors, 10 laser lines (including NIR, an additional feature of SilVIR), and objectives for a wide range of applications on an IX83 inverted microscope platform.

Evident will give an introduction and Q&A session about FV4000 via Zoom next Thursday (May 1st) at 10:30<https://yale.zoom.us/j/96988829576>, after which we'll send out sign-up details. Please help spread the words. Thank you!
