Yale Peabody Museum, Central Gallery
The Wu Tsai Institute’s Center for Neurodevelopment and Plasticity invites you to Mind/Matter: The Panel on Monday, October 27, from 5:00 to 7:15 pm at the Yale Peabody Museum. In conjunction with the closing of the Peabody’s acclaimed exhibition Mind/Matter: The Neuroscience of Perception, Attention, and Memory<https://peabody.yale.edu/news/mind-matter-exhibition>, this special event explores one of the most pivotal and poignant rivalries in the history of brain science.
Join renowned science writer Carl Zimmer as he moderates a discussion with world’s leading biographers of Camillo Golgi and Santiago Ramón y Cajal:
Paolo Mazzarello — neurologist and historian of medicine, author of The Hidden Structure, the definitive biography of Golgi
Benjamin Ehrlich — science writer and author of The Brain in Search of Itself, the celebrated biography of Cajal
These conversations will examine how Golgi’s reticular theory and Cajal’s neuron doctrine shaped our understanding of the brain to reveal the artistic, political, and scientific stakes that still resonate today. Admission is free and open to the public; registration is required. Following the panel, guests are invited to view the Mind/Matter exhibition until 7:15 pm.
Register for the panel<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mindmatter-the-panel-tickets-1762416909419?aff=oddtdtcreator>, and contact Mayra Blakey<mailto:mayra at blakey@yale.edu> with questions.
To deepen the dialogue sparked by Mind/Matter: The Panel, the Yale community is invited to join these companion events.
