With the support of the Poynter fellowship, the linguistics department will be hosting a presentation by Amanda Montell<https://amandamontell.com/> next Friday, April 10th, at 7pm in LC 102. A poster for the talk is below, and her short bio is as follows:

Amanda Montell is a New York Times-bestselling author and iHeart Radio Award-winning podcaster. Her nonfiction books include Cultish, Wordslut, and The Age of Magical Overthinking, which have been praised by The Atlantic, The Economist, NPR, and others. In addition to hosting the hit podcasts Sounds Like A Cult<https://www.soundslikeacult.com/> and Magical Overthinkers<https://bio.site/magicaloverthinkers>, Amanda has written for publications including The New York Times, The Guardian, and Esquire. Amanda holds a degree in linguistics from NYU and lives in Southern California.

Amanda will be talking about her most recent book, The Age of Magical Overthinking, and will be focusing specifically on the role of digital media in increasing our reliance on irrational cognitive biases.  Please join us for what promises to be an exciting event!
