Talk Title: A multivariate brain state for directing the mind's eye inward

Your ability to remember what you had for breakfast yesterday depends in part on engaging the retrieval brain state, a whole-brain activity pattern thought to be specific to episodic remembering -- what you did when and where. Through the use of multivariate machine learning assessment of neural activity patterns, I present evidence in support of the alternative hypothesis that the retrieval state tracks internal attention demands. Engagement of this putative internal attention state may thus account for behavior across cognitive processes beyond episodic memory.
