*Talk Title: *Ripples in Time: How Arousal Shapes Memory Formation Across
Sleep and Wake.

Every moment of our daily experience sets the starting point for a new
memory to potentially form, but how and when are memories strengthened over
time to support their long-term consolidation? One putative marker of
memory formation is the repeated "replay" of neural activity patterns
during hippocampal sharp wave ripples, which are thought to occur during
"offline" states like sleep and rest. In this talk, I will provide a
psychophysiological account that refines this offline framework by
highlighting a common arousal mechanism that shapes ripple genesis and
memory replay across both sleep and waking states in humans.
