Edith Grossman and Book Swap


Edith Grossman will read from and discuss her award-winning English
translation of the Spanish masterpiece Don Quixote.


Edith Grossman is the award-winning translator of poetry and prose by
leading contemporary Spanish-language writers, including Garbiel Garcia
Marquez, Mario Vargas Llosa, Mayra Montero, Augusto Monterroso, Jaime
Manrique, Ariel Dorfman, and Alvaro Mutis.


Born in Philadelphia, she attended the University of Pennsylvania and 
the
University of California at Berkeley before receiving her Ph.D. from New
York University. She lives in New York City.


Widely regarded as the world's first modern novel, and one of the
funniest and most tragic books ever written, Don Quixote
chronicles the famous picaresque adventures of the noble knight-errant
Don Quixote of La Mancha and his faithful squire, Sancho Panza, as they
travel through sixteenth-century Spain.
