Please join us for a poetry reading by poets James Longenbach and Carl
Phillips on Thursday, February 10, at 4:00 pm at the Beinecke Rare Book and
Manuscript Library, 121 Wall Street. Elizabeth Alexander will introduce the
poets. A reception will follow; this event is free and open to the public.

Poet and critic James Longenbach is the author of poetry collections
including Fleet River and Threshold, and critical works including Modern
Poetry after Modernism and The Resistance to Poetry, essays on the state of
the art. He is the Joseph Henry Gilmore Professor of English at the
University of Rochester.
Carl Phillips is the author of seven books of poetry, including From the
Devotions, Rock Harbor, and The Rest of Love: Poems. He has recently
published a translation of Sophocles' Philoctetes and a book of essays,
Coin of the Realm: Essays on the Life and Art of Poetry. He is associate
professor of English and of African and Afro-American Studies at Washington
University, St. Louis.
