Poetry Reading: Emmanuel Hocquard (in French) & Keith Waldrop (translations
in English)

Tuesday, May 2, 4:30 p.m.
Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, 121 Wall Street, New Haven, CT
Sponsored by the Beinecke library & Department of French
Free and open to the public

Emmanuel Hocquard, born in 1940, is one of the major poets of his
generation. His work is accessible to the first-time reader and exemplary
of the 'negative modernity' vein of contemporary poetics. He is the founder
of the small publishing house "Bureau sur l'Atlantique" (where the focus is
bringing modern American poetry into French) and the primary organizer (for
the fifteen years that it lasted) of the Royaumont translation workshops
which have been instrumental in opening up dialogues between poets in
France and many other countries. He is the author of five books of poems
(not counting the smaller ones) and a massive (recently collected) series
of short essays on poetry (Ma haie).
