Please join us for a reading by poet John Ashbery on Wednesday, September 
20th, 4 pm
at Battell Chapel on the corner of College and Elm Streets. A reception 
will follow; this event is free and open to the public on a first come, 
first served basis. This is the first reading of the 2006-2007 Yale 
Collection of American Literature Reading Series sponsored by the Beinecke

John Ashbery's many books of poetry include Some Trees (selected by W. H. 
Auden for the Yale Younger Poets Series), Three Madrigals, The Ice Storm, 
Girls on the Run, As Umbrellas Follow Rain, and Chinese Whispers. In 1976, 
his Self-Portrait in a Convex Mirror won the Pulitzer Prize, the National 
Book Award, and the National Book Critics Circle Award. Among many other 
honors, he has been awarded the Bollingen Prize for Poetry, the Ruth Lilly 
Poetry Prize, the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize, the MLA Common Wealth Award 
in Literature, the Harriet Monroe Memorial Prize, the Frank O'Hara Prize, 
and the Shelley Memorial Award. He is Charles P. Stevenson, Jr., Professor 
of Language and Literature at Bard College.
