Please join us for poetry readings by Terrance Hayes and Major Jackson on
Thursday, February 1st, 2007, 4pm. This event is co-sponsored by the
African American Studies Department. The poets will be introduced by Yale
University graduate students Erica Levy and Andrew Nurkin. A reception will
follow; this event is free and open to the public. For additional

Terrance Hayes is the author of Hip Logic, Muscular Music, and most
recently, Wind in a Box. He has been awarded a Whiting Writers Award, the
Kate Tufts Discovery Award, a National Poetry Series award, a Pushcart
Prize, and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. Major Jackson is
the author of two collections of poetry, Hoops and Leaving Saturn, winner
of the 2000 Cave Canem Poetry Prize and finalist for a National Book
Critics Circle Award. He is a recipient of a Whiting Writers' Award and has
been honored by the Pew Fellowship in the Arts and the Witter Bynner
Foundation in conjunction with the Library of Congress. Major Jackson is an
Associate Professor of English at the University of Vermont and a faculty
member of the Bennington Writing Seminars.
