CHRISTOPHER BUCKLEY
"One of the funniest writers in the English language." --Tom Wolfe
SPRING 2010 EVENT, FRANCIS CONVERSATIONS WITH WRITERS AND EDITORS
Thursday, February 18, 8:00 p.m.
Branford Common Room, 74 High St.
Introduced by Anne Fadiman, Francis Writer-in-Residence
Christopher Buckley '75, the satirical novelist, political commentator, and memoirist, will read from and discuss his bestselling memoir, Losing Mum and Pup, at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 18, in the Branford Common Room. The event is part of Yale College's series of Francis Conversations with Writers and Editors.
Buckley's novels include Thank You for Smoking (which was made into a
2005 film), Boomsday, and Supreme Courtship. Losing Mum and Pup is the tragicomic account of the deaths of the author's formidable parents, William F. Buckley, the conservative icon, and his wife Pat, a celebrated socialite who once curtsied too low to a duchess and caught a heel in her pearls. Janet Maslin wrote in the New York Times, "Read it and chortle. Read it and weep."
