Please join us for the following reading:
Dolores Hayden, Professor of Architecture, Urbanism, and American Studies will give a reading from her new collection of poems, Nymph, Dun, and Spinner, on Wednesday November 17, 4:30 p.m. in HGS Room 401. A reception with wine and cheese will follow.
A noted scholar as well as a poet with an enduring interest in the shape of time, Hayden maps American landscapes from the paint colors on Kiowa tipis to the right angle grids of Shaker towns. Whether she conveys the exotic mimicry of fishing tackle or the banal calculations behind a shopping mall, her poems illuminate the natural and built worlds with exceptional inventiveness. Hayden is the recipient of awards from the Poetry Society of America and the New England Poetry Club. Her first collection, American Yard, was published in 2004, and she gave the Yale Phi Beta Kappa poem in 2008. Her poems have appeared in The Yale Review, Southwest Review, Slate, Raritan, The American Scholar, The Best American Poetry 2009, and many other journals and anthologies.
