Featuring poets Lonnie Black and Peter Gizzi

Lonnie Black was the driving force behind Northeast Magazine’s interest
in and publication of poetry and has been named co-founder of the
Sunken Garden Poetry Festival. Named a Master Teacher Artist by the
Connecticut Commission on the Arts, Lonnie has served as poet in the
classroom on every level from elementary through post-secondary. Lonnie
lectures and conducts creative writing workshops/master classes
throughout Connecticut. He is also an English As-A-Second Language
Instructor and Creative Writing Instructor for Litchfield Performing
Arts. In 1991 Mr. Black became Poetry Director of Artworks Gallery and
created the program of 'Three Connecticut Poets' and he’s now carrying
the program (in its twentieth year) at the West Hartford Art League.
Peter Gizzi is the author of several collections of poetry, including
Threshold Songs (2011), The Outernationale (2007), and Artificial Heart
(1998). He has been poetry editor for The Nation as well as founding
co-editor, with Connell McGrath, of o•blék: a journal of language arts.
He has also edited The House That Jack Built: The Collected Lectures of
Jack Spicer (1998), and has co-edited My Vocabulary Did This to Me: The
Collected Poetry of Jack Spicer (2008) with Kevin Killian. Gizzi has
won the Peter I.B. Lavan Younger Poet Award from the Academy of
American Poets as well as fellowships from t he Howard Foundation, the
Rex Foundation, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, and the
Guggenheim Foundation. He teaches at the University of Massachusetts at
Amherst.
