Dear colleagues:

The spring season of the Yale Graduate Poets Reading Series continues TONIGHT at 6:00pm in Linsly-Chittenden Hall, Room 319, with a very special reading by Cynthia Zarin, poet, essayist, and coordinator of the Yale Writing Concentration. Cynthia will be reading from her most recent collection Orbit—about which the Library Journal raves in a starred review, "Essential reading for those seeking magic on the page . . . J.M.W. Turner comes to mind. In particular Turner’s late-stage work, when issues of craft have long been resolved and what we see if pure feeling, sublime and urgent."

David M. deLeon and Clay Greene, graduate students in English, will serve as Cynthia's opening acts.

Cynthia Zarin was born in New York City and educated at Harvard and Columbia. She is the author of four previous collections, including most recently The Ada Poems, as well as a collection of essays, An Enlarged Heart, and several books for children. She is a longtime contributor to The New Yorker and the recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Ingram Merrill Foundation. A winner of the Peter I. B. Lavan Younger Poets Award and the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, she teaches at Yale and lives in New York City.

David M. deLeon is a writer, academic, and theater artist. Creative work has appeared in places like Rattle, Fence Magazine, Diagram, Strange Horizons, Bat City Review, 2River View, Anderbo, The Cortland Review, Box of Jars, Anti-, and the anthology Only The Sea Keeps. Awards include the Mary M. Fay Poetry Award, an Academy of American Poets prize, a Pushcart nomination, and the McGlinchee Prize for a Play. Most recently, his poetry manuscript was a finalist for the Lena-Miles Wever Todd book prize. His first full-length play was produced in New York in 2014.

Clay Greene is a writer and PhD student at Yale University, where he studies sixteenth and seventeenth century British poetry. In addition to his academic work, he writes fiction and poetry. He was a runner-up for the Norman Mailer prize in creative nonfiction and won the Lindsey Stricklin Scholarship for fiction from the Alabama Writer's Forum. He recently completed his third novel.
