"Egg, æg, ei, oeuf, ugh: Thoughts about Languages, Translations, and Writing"
Wednesday, April 4th, 5 p.m., Bingham Hall Library

Please join us for an informal talk by Lydia Davis, master translator from the French (Proust, Flaubert, Blanchot, Leiris) and "one of the most original minds in American fiction today" (The New Yorker). The talk will be followed by a discussion with Professor Alice Kaplan (Yale, Department of French), as well as a q and a with the audience.
Lydia Davis's many honors include the 2003 French-American Foundation Translation Prize for her translation of Marcel Proust's Swann's Way and, that same year, a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship. She was named a Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government for her fiction and her translations, and received the 2013 Man Booker International Prize for fiction. The New York Review of Books called her 2009 Collected Stories "one of the great books in recent literature."
