The Maya Kaqchikel poet, playwright, artist, and activist Rosa Chávez will be joining the Central American Futurities Conference at Yale from Guatemala as our keynote (April 5, 3:30pm). She will be performing music, reading some poems, sharing work from her performance archive, and sharing the context of her work with the audience. Rosa will be speaking and performing in Spanish, but there will be live interpretation in English (for those with headphones and smart devices). Additional conference activities are noted below and on the attached flyer.

Please join us for the Central American Futurities, a conference at Yale University taking place April 5-6, 2024, at the Afro-American Cultural Center (211 Park Street).

This is the first international conference dedicated to Central American studies at Yale, and one of the first (if not the first) of)such conferences to take place in the northeastern United States. Our panels especially attend to Central American thought taking place on the East Coast and the isthmus, while drawing focus on Black and Indigenous isthmian epistemologies and perspectives.

Among the activists, writers, educators, and scholars who will join us, we are thrilled to have Rosa Chávez––Maya Kaqchikel poet, playwright, artist, and activist––as our keynote.

Please visit www.centralamericanfuturities.com<http://www.centralamericanfuturities.com/> for more information, including registration. While this conference is free and open to the public, the organizers request RSVPs for in-person attendance by March 31 due to high interest and limited capacity. Virtual attendance via Zoom is available here: https://tinyurl.com/CentAmFuturitiesYale.

For the Keynote and April 6 events, simultaneous interpretation between English and Spanish will be available both in person and virtually.
