In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: Dear Members of the Yale Structural Biology community, As most of you are probably aware, the APS synchrotron has been ?dark? for much of the past two years to implement upgrades to the ring. These upgrades are now complete and beamlines are opening up to allow user access again. Yale is a member of the Northeastern Collaborative Access Team, and we receive priority access to the NE-CAT beamlines through this agreement, recently renewed by Michael Crair (Thank you). NE-CAT is coming back online for users starting in March, so we are able to schedule beamtime there again. At this time, it is probably best for labs to directly contact NE-CAT to schedule time, the pasted email below provides detailed information regarding how to do this. If it becomes an issue, Yong and I will update procedures for beamtime allocation, but for now please directly schedule time with NE-CAT. Also, for those who don't know her, Cyndi Salbego is very helpful if you have queries. Best, Titus cc Yong Subject: NE-CAT Member - Scheduling is starting for the 2025-1 run! NE-CAT Members, It?s been a long time since one of these emails has been sent, and it feels like such an accomplishment to get to this point. Scientific Commissioning is underway, and while it?s had some bumps, it?s been super helpful getting us to a point where we feel comfortable opening up the March and April schedule for members! The run will be March 11th ? April 29th. Mondays are machine studies and not available for experiments. For the first two weeks, we will schedule full days (March 11th ? March 24th). Starting March 25th, we will plan to go back to two shifts a day. Short shift will be 11am -7pm, long shift 7pm ? 9am (except Monday mornings when beam goes down at 8am). At this time, only 24-ID-E is up and running, 24-ID-C is in the process of commissioning. Please reach out to schedule times for your groups by February 21st, 2025. On that date, we will open to General Users to fill the remaining spots. During the upgrade, APS has instituted a new Universal Proposal System (UPS) that is a joint venture with other DOE labs. To be able to use the UPS you will need to have an active and updated APS account, that you have authorized to ORCID. Then you can login to the UPS using your ORCID account, and information would be shared within the systems. PIs and group members who want to be on the proposal will need to update with APS and login at least once to UPS. You do not need to have ALL members of your lab on the proposal, we will use the ESAF to track who is participating in the beamtime. I would emphasize that the Users Office is overwhelmed with people updating their registration, so I would highly recommend anyone who might participate in beamtime login or update their registration sooner, rather than later so that there?s plenty of time to get them processed. Here is a link to the user portal: https://beam.aps.anl.gov/pls/apsweb/usercheckin.start_page If you are unable to login with a domain account, you will have to submit a new registration form and note that you have a badge number and what that is. They will then update your registration and help you with activating a domain account. The link for new registration is here: https://www.aps.anl.gov/Users-Information/Getting-Started/User-Checklist/APS The Universal Proposal System can be found here: https://ups.servicenowservices.com/ups Please submit an MX proposal for the 2025-1 run. We no longer have ?rapid access? for MX, and it?s a rolling deadline for the whole run. Please note that the new system requires a review of the proposal before we are able to schedule it, so upon submission send me a heads up so we can assign reviewers within NE-CAT to speed up the review process. We have created a step by step tutorial for submitting the proposal here: Submitting an MX General User Proposal in UPS If there is anything I can help with, please let me know! Otherwise, I look forward to hearing from you about your scheduling dates! PS. Please note that NE-CAT no longer has access to their @anl.gov emails and have moved over to @cornell.edu emails. * Frank Murphy - frankvmurphy@cornell.edu * Malcolm Capel - mc329@cornell.edu * Ali Kaya - ali.kaya@cornell.edu * Anne Mulichak - amm624@cornell.edu * David Neau - d.neau@cornell.edu * Igor Kourinov - igor@cornell.edu * Jonathan Schuermann - jps333@cornell.edu * Kay Perry - kay.perry@cornell.edu * N.
