Hi everyone,

ok, the cat is out of the bag (and will be well taken care of).

Back in 2012, when online training options became more available and more conducive to topics like NACO, the PCC Secretariat started hosting two Online NACO Training Workshops each year, one in January/February, and one in September. This was because we wanted to accommodate as many new NACO participants without having to organize onsite training, which used to be the standard model for NACO training. Smaller institutions joining the NACO Program often did not have the resources to organize onsite trainings, even when inviting other local institutions to participate. Also, Original RDA was the new standard, and there was broader interest in authorities training.

Because these Online NACO Training Workshops filled up with new NACO members, the PCC Secretariat did not open them to existing NACO members. Over time, though, through word of mouth, the PCC Secretariat (well, actually Paul Frank) would open up spaces for existing NACO participants to join the workshops for a refresher.

That is the background to the discussion on this list about the September Online NACO Training Workshop.

PCC Secretariat colleagues Tricia Mackenzie and I are happy to open up participation in the September Online NACO Training Workshop on a first-come, first-served basis. We will limit attendance to 100 NACO participants.

The workshop will run from Monday, September 11, 2023 - Wednesday, September 27, 2023.

We will meet for eight webinars (11:00 AM - 12:00 noon EDT):

Webinar 1: Welcome Session: Monday, September 11, 2023, 11:00 AM-12:00 Noon EDT (1 hour)
Webinar 2: NACO Background and MARC Authority Format: Wednesday, September 13, 2023, 11:00 AM - 12:00 Noon EDT (1 hour)
Webinar 3: Personal Names: Friday, September 15, 2023, 11:00 AM - 12:00 Noon EDT (1 hour)
Webinar 4: Corporate Names: Monday, September 18, 2023, 11:00 - 12:00 Noon EDT (1 hour)
Webinar 5: Place Names: Wednesday, September 20, 2023, 11:00 AM - 12:00 Noon EDT (1 hour)
Webinar 6: Works and Expressions: Friday, September 22, 2023, 11:00 - 12:00 Noon EDT (1 hour)
Webinar 7: Relationships: Monday, September 25, 2023, 11:00 AM - 12:00 Noon EDT (1 hour)
Webinar 8: Changes to NARs: Wednesday, September 27, 2023, 11:00 AM - 12:00 Noon EDT (1 hour)

and in the periods between each webinar, you study on your own by watching recordings and reviewing NACO Training slides. You also compile questions during the study periods and so we can go over them during the webinars.

You should plan on spending approximately 25-30 hours of hands-on work during the workshop, including the eight live one-hour webinars.

Tricia and I already have 25 NACO participants enrolled in the September Online NACO Training Workshop, so we are opening up the workshop to 75 more participants on that first-come, first-served basis.

Here is a registration form for the workshop. Once the registration reaches 75 attendees, the form will become inactive.
