Hello NACO colleagues,

As we resume NACO work after a short hiatus, I want to point out, in case you have not seen it, the final report of the SCS Task Group on Privacy in Name Authority Records<https://www.loc.gov/aba/pcc/scs/documents/SCS-TG-Privacy-in-NARs-Final-Report.pdf>. On pages 8 to 11 (pdf pages 10 to 13), you will find a useful table that lists recommendations and examples by MARC fields. For instance, the report recommends: "For living persons, do not seek out if not public or provided with consent. Do not use dates obtained through institutional bureaucracies (e.g. university registrar records or association membership lists) without explicit consent. When corresponding with authors, be clear that there are other options for disambiguation. If a person requests their birth date not be recorded, include a 667."

Happy reading,
Dominique
