Hello,
I wanted to send an update on ArchivesSpace activities, as we all start preparing for a winter recess.
Local Instances of ArchivesSpace
* The local DEV instance is upgraded to the latest release 1.4.2
* The DEV instance contains all updated Yale plugins, including one written by Mark Custer to improve printing.
* A local TEST+ instance has been upgraded to 1.4.2. The ArchivesSpace Committee (YAMS) has been testing the results this afternoon.
* The local PROD instance will be upgraded to 1.4.2 early in the new year. Please look for communications about scheduling and down time required. We will make every effort to minimize downtime. I am discussing exact scheduling with YAMS and Library IT.
Lyrasis Hosting Evaluation
* Staff have been reporting their feedback on testing the 3 configurations (standard, large, max) currently available from Lyrasis
* Results are showing positive experience with the large and max configurations
* Testing of the API dependent programs has been successful. A review of the custom program created by Library IT to batch update locations in ASpace after transfer to LSF tested successful, as did a program developed by Osman to support Kissinger. Additional testing on the ASpace addon in Aeon will begin in January.
* I have been running automated load testing against the instances. I started using a new tool called Loadster. I'm in love with Loadster. I've shared it with several colleagues already. My best analogy is, if JMeter is the Taylor Swift of automated testing tools, Loadster is the Adele.
* I have started to talk with Yale's procurement office about the draft contract. Procurement has provided the basic terms for cloud services Yale expects in contracts. This language has been vetted by General Counsel, InfoSec, Disaster Recovery and more. It is more robust than what is currently in the Lyrasis contract, particularly in MTTR and MTRS measurements for service disruptions. These service availability measurements are ITIL standards and part of the Yale environment, so we should expect to see them in contracted arrangements.
* Maureen Callahan and I have been working through an initial set of questions and edits for the draft contract and this work will continue into the new year.
* For now, the hosted configurations have been turned off, but will resume in early January. The pilot fees for the instances are based on a 30-day clock. Since we have a break coming up, I asked for the pause and resume to save money.
I'd like to thank all our colleagues who have been doing testing in the Lyrasis pilot instances and testing the local instances for upgrade readiness. Their effort is a major contribution to both these projects. I know testing is something that takes place in addition to regular responsibilities, so thank you for making the time to do this.
Sincerely,
Melissa Wisner
Library IT
