Thanks, I do not know if this is related, but I have noticed a slowness in all my browser activity. I got a system message this morning about browser slowness being related to add-ins enabled by my browser. It wasn't an add-in I felt I could disable. -- Mary

Yesterday and today some staff have reported slowness or difficulty connecting to production ArchivesSpace. LIT has been working with Lyrasis to monitor the problem. We have access to a monitoring tool, New Relic, and can also see the log files recording all system activity.

At this time, we believe the slowness is not a systemic issue, but rather a temporary issue possibly due to some work on some of our largest records in the database. Temporary, because we will work with Lyrasis to adjust some web server configurations to better accommodate downloading of large files. This is not to say that work on large records is the problem. It just may be the detail in the log that leads us to the area of the application needing better configuration. If we see error/connection time out during file download, we know this can cause downstream slowness for others using the system during that time and work to address it.

Ours is a unique database both in size and content, and as we continue to use ArchivesSpace our database will grow and our large records will continue to get larger. It is difficult to know this in advance and prevent it, but once encountered we can definitely address it and keep the system running to our stated contractual standards.

So, both LIT and YAMS wanted to make a general announcement to staff. Please send along any issues you encounter or questions.
