[Yale ArchivesSpace] YulASpace Digest, Vol 27, Issue 6

Thanks for the info everyone. I sometimes find I miss not seeing the responses to questions posed on this list--realize I just need to wait a little longer in this case.

BTW., I do not think MSSA has an example of this (the finding aid referenced by Ellen is YCBA's) but we do have collections where indicating volume/page would be useful. We also have microfilm collections where we reference reel/frame. -- Thanks, Mary

Hi Ellen and Mary,

After some discussion about this in YAMS last week, we decided to (re)add 'page' to the container type list. Thanks!

Alicia

Let's say I have a collection of correspondence affixed to the pages of a handful of albums. When I describe a letter (or a series of letters) as a component within the finding aid, I'd like to refer to the volume number and the page number(s) where the letters are found. What's the best way to do this?

My instinct is to specify the location with instance data, naming the volume number as the top container and the page number(s) as child type/child indicator. But "page" isn't available as a term for child type. Does this mean I should look elsewhere for a solution? Or can "page" be added to the child type term list?

Thanks,
Francis

Beinecke has one finding aid like this that was traditionally handled with a separate style sheet that substituted volume for box and page for folder, but this won't be an option in the PUI. I see another in YFAD where MSSA has expressed the volume and page together with a hyphen as the container. It would be great if we could have a "page" type as Francis suggests, so that it's clearer to researchers what's going on.

Beinecke example:
