On behalf of YAMS we are pleased to announce that we are ready to roll out several improvements to ArchivesSpace which will impact the public user interface. In August we updated in the ArchivesSpace TEST PUI<https://puitestarchivesspace.library.yale.edu/> to include number of improvements that YAMS and the developers at Hudson Molongolo created improve the 'Finding Aid View' tab in Archives at Yale. Please see details about these changes below the signature.

YAMS had initially scheduled this rollout for next Wednesday, however, due to several scheduling issues, and given a desire to roll this out in calendar year 2019 so as to allow us to focus on new development in FY2020, as well as have the system up and ready for the spring semester, we are accelerating the rollout to today, Friday, 12/6. This had been approved by YAMS as a fallback date, though we apologize for the delayed messaging as we worked out the best approach for rollout with our host Lyrasis.

Please expect brief (< 1 hour) of downtime of the production system beginning at [TIME] this evening. We have selected a deployment path which minimizes downtime and guarantees redundancy, therefore we expect the process to result in minimal impact to connected systems and end-users. Note that the PROD instance of ArchivesSpace and Archives at Yale may perform a bit more slowly than usual for several hours after the updates are applied while the system rebuilds its index.

The changes have been available in test for several months and have been well received.

Please note that you may see some additional display changes as a result of this update.

The change most noticeable to patrons will be a significant enhancement to the Finding Aid View. The current view:

There are numerous enhancements, both under the hood and visible to patrons. Not seen in the screenshot is the improved loading time, improved compliance with accessibility standards, and modal-mediated request functionality. Highlights visible on the screen include the ability to request directly from the finding aid view, a persistent "scroll spy" navigation dropdown on the top, and a fast-return to the top of the finding aid (see "return to top" link at upper right). The context tree, which introduced accessibility and screen formatting issues, has been removed from the Finding Aid View only in favor of the simplified dropdown navigation at the top of the page. You may also notice that properly titled collection identifier values are prepended to the series display title. This takes us to the next set of enhancements, applied through plugins.

The restart will also introduce several plugins which have been available over the past few weeks and months in the test interface. Those include the following:

  *   Series/Title Display: This plugin prepends collection organization level identifiers (for example "Series ") in all views where summary titles are present. This includes the context tree in the collection overview pages and the navigation dropdown in the improved Finding Aid View.  It also changes the display in the staff interface to mirror the new public display format. The text follows conventions approved by YAMS:

  *   Display Multiple Containers: This plugin will allow for a cleaner text when requesting archival objects linked to multiple containers. When multiple containers are linked, the summary count of those containers is displayed on the "request" button in the Finding Aid View. After clicking the request button, a modal appears which presents a container list. Users will then be directed to Aeon where they will have the option of selecting one or more containers to request.

  *   "Ancestor Search Error" : This plugin will remediate an issue created by an edge-case database condition where an item contains a suppressed record in the found-in property and the user does not have permission to view suppressed objects.   *   "In a Rush": This plugin adds powerful keyboard shortcuts to the staff interface. Type "?", at any point, to display a menu of available keyboard shortcuts.
