Dear colleagues,

If you've created a new ArchivesSpace resource record recently, you may have noticed that there are two new required fields in the resource record finding aid data section. These fields are Language of Description and Script of Description.

Instructions about populating these fields are now in the ArchivesSpace at Yale: User Manual in the Finding Aid Data section<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DI_7YNZy-RcjQ9hpMMbxJEkHFpYndzmDoG3ylOc38BY/edit#heading=h.wrc1a09e8p6d>. Here are the excerpted instructions:

Required fields in this section for the ArchivesSpace system include: Language of Description and Script of Description. For most Yale finding aids, these will be English and Latin, respectively. For finding aids written in a language other than English, the appropriate language should be recorded in Language of Description. Any finding aid languages with non-Latin scripts should have their script indicated in Script of Description.

This is a good opportunity to adjust your user settings so that you don't have to enter "English" and "Latin" in these fields every time you make a new resource record. Instructions for adjusting your user settings are at the end of the manual in the Applying default values as a user section<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DI_7YNZy-RcjQ9hpMMbxJEkHFpYndzmDoG3ylOc38BY/edit#heading=h.rfpynvi8makt>.

Please let me know if you have questions, and best wishes,
Alison
