[Yale ArchivesSpace] 14 December, 6p: Database, Test Image

Reminder that this work is happening tonight.

Work on upgrading Test to 3.3.1 may get going a little before 6p so that we can discuss what we see with our development partners in our biweekly call.
Test ArchivesSpace itself may not be down for that long, but the public interface to it will take a while to recuperate because of the recreation of the database index required with the upgrade.

The Production shift to MySQL 8 should be much smoother. It was in Test.

Best,
Trip

Friends of Yale ArchivesSpace:

It’s time for me to eat a little crow. I was mistaken about last week’s database change to Production. In fact, all Lyrasis wanted to do last week was to take the first step toward upgrading our production database to MySQL 8. This week for sure, tomorrow 14 December at or around 6p, they are going to do the actual db upgrade. My apologies for the error and the inconvenience.

ALSO tomorrow night at or around 6p, they are going to load into the Test environment the first pass at upgrading us to ArchivesSpace 3.3.1. Since it’s just going into Test, I won’t detail the features and bugfixes that happened between our current version (2.7.1) and this new one. More communications around that to come. There will surely be extended downtime with the Test environment as the database index (for searching, inter alia) is recreated after ArchivesSpace is upgraded. It’s hard to say exactly how much downtime there will be, but please don’t count on using the Test environment after 6p tomorrow night until the morning of the 15th. While nobody expects it to take that long, this first attempt carries more risk of delay than later ones will.
I thank you in advance for your patience with the Test environment as we take this exciting step.

Best,
Trip
