Friends of Yale ArchivesSpace:
With apologies for the extended silence, I wanted to update you on the below.
In short, the security work doesn’t seem (emphasis on “seem”) to have wreaked havoc with the ArchivesSpace database. If you would like and your tasks point toward it, you can resume working in the ArchivesSpace Test environment, with one request and one caveat.
The request is for you to notify me as soon as you see anything that is very awry. Not problems or infelicities that you have seen for a while, but something that completely won’t load, save, etc. Text in the interface that is 100% wrong. Things like that may indicate that the security scan affected a tendril or corner of ArchivesSpace that I didn’t check.
The caveat is that if we do find something materially awry, we may have to restore the Test database to a state before the work you are doing in it. As it is a Test environment, it’s assumed you are not doing anything permanent, but I wanted to articulate that to try to make the assumption mutual.
Best,
Trip

Friends of Yale ArchivesSpace:
With apologies for the short notice, this is a request to pause work in the Test environment on 4 October, tomorrow as of the sending of this message.
We are doing some security work on this environment with 2 primary consequences:
1. We need to make a backup of the database and index because
2. Part of the security work will be running a scan for vulnerabilities that will in all likelihood add data that makes the application fail.
The secondary consequences are
1. Data entered by staff tomorrow morning might not get backed up and therefore might not get restored.
2. As well, the application as a whole might become unavailable at some point during the application scan if this is the case, it will remain unavailable until the database and index are restored.
I’ll keep you updated on this email list as and if things change and/or when things are available again
Best,
Trip
