NEW ALCTS Forum on the LC Series Authority Record Decision

Join ALCTS for an important discussion of the recent Library of Congress
decision “to cease to provide controlled series access in the bibliographic
records that its catalogers produce. Its catalogers will cease creating
series authority records (SARs).”

The event is scheduled for Friday, June 23, from 4-6 pm in Room 386-387 in
the Morial Convention Center.

Other ALCTS Forums during Annual include the “New Catalog” and “Digital
Preservation”.

Need help or advice? Contact Genevieve Owens, chair of the ALCTS Program
Committee or Julie Reese, ALCTS Events Manager.

Remember, 2007 is ALCTS 50th Anniversary and we’re looking for programs
that support our theme: “Commemorating Our Past, Celebrating Our Present,
Creating Our Future.”

Mea Culpa Moment and an Apology

We have discovered an extraordinarily embarrassing mistake on the cover and
title page of the new Preservation Manager’s Guide to Cost Analysis. We
left out the word “Library” in our own name. The name is correct in the
CIP. Sincerest apologies to the authors who worked very hard on this very
important publication and to Jeanne Drewes who shepherded it through the
process.--Charles Wilt, Executive Director, ALCTS

Volunteering in ALCTS

There are always lots of questions about volunteering in ALCTS. Look for
the June “From the Office” article in the ALCTS Newsletter Online (ANO).

ALCTS Deadlines

After the ALA Annual Conference, the Office begins the switch over to the
New Year. We run a July 1-June 30 meeting year. The ALA fiscal year is
September 1 (FYI).

Among the tasks:
    * Web rosters will be updated July 1.
    * Discussion lists will be updated throughout July. (This is a manual
operation so it takes time.)
    * The preparation work for the 2006-2007 ALA Handbook takes place in
July. Some committees start their work: the ALCTS Board of Directors,
Awards Juries, Nominating Committee, and a few section committees.
    * Also, the new Board of Directors takes office. Bruce Johnson assumes
the ALCTS Presidency. New Section Chairs are: Trisha Davis, Acquisitions;
David Miller, CCS; Linda Phillips, CMDS, Nancy Kraft, PARS, Emily McElroy,
Serials and for CRG, Elaine Yontz.
