Dear Cataloging Colleagues:
We are pleased to announce the roll-out of a new initiative designed
to improve access to Yale University Library's extensive holdings of
material related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer
(LGBTQ) topics. On October 1 staff in Acquisitions, CMS, and
cataloging units throughout the Library, will begin adding a new tag
in the MARC 690 field, "LGBTQ resource," to records for material
having LGBTQ content. A scope note and guidelines for adding the
tag, along with a brief summary of the considerations that led to its
creation, can be found in Policies & Procedures
at
<http://www.library.yale.edu/cataloging/Orbis2Manual/LGBTQ070607.doc>http://www.library.yale.edu/cataloging/Orbis2Manual/LGBTQ070607.doc
. When you review this documentation, please particularly note that
the tag should be present in records for any item that has either
been bannered (by a selector/curator or Acquisitions staff) for LGBTQ
content or has a relevant LGBTQ subject heading.
A macro for this new tag has been created and can be downloaded from
PCAmigo. Instructions for loading and running the macro are at:

If you have any questions about the implementation of this new
initiative, please do not hesitate to contact either of us. Thank you.
