As a follow-up to the Feb. workshops introducing YUL Core policies, a
Checklist and Cheat Sheet are now available on Cataloging at
Yale/Policies & Procedures in a new YUL Core Policies section:
http://www.library.yale.edu/cataloging/indexgeneral.htm
Direct access.

I would like to call your attention to one significant revision to
the policies. Notes justifying access points are not required for the
YUL Core standard. In the course of reviewing earlier drafts of the
documentation, the Catalog Policy & Documentation Committee observed
that in some cases the justifying note would be the only record of
the form of the name if an authority record was not made. So, the
revised policy is:
If a heading used on a core record has not been established and would
not normally be established following YUL authority record policies,
and the heading can only be referenced through a note, either make an
authority record for the heading or make a justifying note,
preferably a quotation.
For example, if for a collection of conference papers the conference
name is not given in the chief source and must be taken from the
preface, and the heading for the conference has not already been
established, either make a quoted note to document the conference
name or make an authority record for the conference name.
Some other changes have been made as non-print cataloging
documentation has been reviewed. Further revision to the guidelines
can occur as catalogers get more experience and feedback is received.
