[Yulcat-l] FW: Connexion Client Software Download

I lost track of this announcement while on vacation. It's OK to click Yes. If the download is successful, the pull down menu in the Connexion Desc fixed field will include the new value "c" for ISBD punctuation omitted. Actually, what this means is that the cataloging agency is ignoring ISBD/AACR2 rules for end punctuation. Internal punctuation will still be used, so the familiar slash separating the title from the statement of responsibility and the colons and semicolons in the various fields would still be included. Apparently if a MARC record is created following RDA and with full ISBD punctuation, the result will be some cases where the punctuation will be doubled, e.g. "1st ed.." with a period for the abbreviation and a period for the subsequent ISBD area.

Subject: [OCLC-CAT] Connexion Client Software Download

The following message concerns the OCLC Connexion client, as follow-up to the OCLC-MARC Update 2011 installed on August 21. If you use only the Connexion browser, you may ignore this message. Connexion browser users have changes to the dropdown lists for fixed field elements available for use immediately and all new indexes and new or changed language qualifiers appear in search screen dropdown lists.

This message is being widely distributed. Please excuse any duplication.

If you use the Connexion client, beginning sometime after 12:00 noon Eastern Daylight Savings Time on Tuesday, August 23, 2011, Connexion client users will be prompted when they start the Connexion client software to download new files that will include changes to the dropdown lists for fixed field elements. The window with the prompt is labeled "New Components Available." You may need Administrative Privileges on your workstation to download the files to your "C:\ProgramFiles\OCLC\Connexion\Program" directory (or its equivalent), so it would be a good idea to check about that first.

When you get the prompt, click "Yes" to download the files immediately or "Remind me later" if you do not wish to download right away. The client does not send any confirmation of the download, however, you will be prompted to download the files each time you open Connexion client until you complete the download.

If you do not receive the prompt, shut down the Connexion client completely, rather than just logging off. When you open the client again, the prompt should appear.

If you do not receive the prompt to download, continue to receive the prompt repeatedly, or have other problems downloading the new files, please contact OCLC Customer Support and Training at 1-800-848-5800, support at oclc.org<mailto:support at oclc.org>, or http://www.oclc.org/us/en/supportandtraining/. Product Support staff will provide you with assistance, including the files to be downloaded and instructions on manual downloads.

In Connexion client, new indexes and new or changed language qualifiers will not appear in search screen dropdown lists, but may be input manually via the command line. The search screen dropdown lists of indexes and language qualifiers will be updated in a future version of the Connexion client.
